Overview
Wiimmfi is a replacement service for the now disconnected Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The service allowed Wii and DS users to play online for any game which used internet for free. Since the server host for the service, GameSpy was discontinued, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was shut down. In response to the shutdown, Wiimmfi was created to keep the service running. Initially, the user was asked to use a patcher to patch Wiimmfi onto an Mario Kart Wii disc which required homebrewing your Wii. After listening to feedback from people hesitant to hack their Wiis, the creators made a custom DNS point for users to connect to the service with no modding required. Wiimmfi now supports over 500 games, with more games being tested and being supported in the future.
Mario Kart Wii
While Wiimmfi is currently used for a multitude of games, the service supports Mario Kart Wii extensively, allowing modpack creators to give their pack an exclusive server region, preventing mod users from connecting to players playing the original game, or a different modded version. CTGP Revolution was the first modpack to do this.
